Styles of Car Exhaust System

There are several types of car exhaust system. Let us have a look at some of the most important ones. Here we go...
  • Single exit: It is the standard system, cost effective and comes installed with most cars and trucks. As the name suggests, it has got one pipe that exhausts the gases away from the engine.

  • Dual rear exit: The location and the design of this system are same as the single exit; the only major difference is the number of pipes. Here, there are two pipes behind the rear passenger’s side.

  • Dual side: There are two pipes next to each other on one side of the vehicle. They are more efficient than the single exit. Of course, the diameter of pipes is small which gives it deeper sound that sounds like high performance. So, they enhance the performance without the tag ‘high performance’.

  • Opposite dual: Like dual side exhaust, they have got two pipes, both are on the opposite sides under the rear bumper and they are not bent under the wheel. They make deeper sound that feels like high performance.

  • High performance: This is one of the best types of the exhaust system. Although it is more expensive than the standard systems, it deserves it. They are the customised system that is built according to the make and model. They improve the performance of the vehicle to a huge extent, increasing the productivity.

  • Axle back: It is not one of the most powerful exhausts, but it seems so because of the powerful sound it produces. It is easy to fit even for those who have very less mechanical knowledge.

  • Cat back: The diameter of the pipes is very large. It goes back from the catalytic converter and the mufflers allow exhaust as the minimum back pressure.

  • Turbo back: Unlike the cat back, it goes back from the turbo charger. It gives greater torque and peak power.
The best ones are used for the Aston Martin and Akrapovic exhaust. Other things like catalytic converters and supercharger pulleys are also used for improving the performance.
