A car muffler is a very essential component of the Akrapovic exhausts present in all the car engines.
If you would have heard any car without the muffler inserted in it,
then you would probably have understood the difference between a car
that has the muffler and the one which doesn’t. The primary function of
these components is to decrease the loud noise which is usually
produced by the engine.
The noise that is produced in the engines is basically because of two
main causes; the foremost being- the internal combustion of the car.
That accounts for the majority of the noise from the engine. The
secondary cause of noise from the engine is the quick opening and
closing of the engine valve that result in creating pressure waves. It
is these waves that make a lot of noise.
There is another very important function that the mufflers in the
Akrapovic Car Exhausts Systems will perform. If you have a muffler
installed in your car, it will absorb these pressure waves and reflect
them back inside the chamber and cylinders of the engine, thereby
reducing the noise by a great value.
When these different waves are developed, they travel in all the
different possible directions. Because of this nature, they keep on
bumping into one another and cancelling each other out. It is the job
of the muffler to control them and also the pressure of the engine.
Hence, it improves the efficiency of the engine. There comes a time
when the muffler will gradually start to rust and disrupt the
functioning of the engine. Because of its odd location, it goes
unnoticed most of the times during the servicing of the car engines.
I thought that your statement about how having a muffler installed in my car could absorb pressure waves was really interesting. I've wondered how these pressure waves are reflected back into the chamber and cylinders in my engine, so it's good to know that the muffler does this for my car. That would explain how cars can drive without making a lot of noise, so I'll keep that in mind the next time my car makes more noise than it usually does.
